Magda Mayas Filamental
Magda Mayas, born in 1979, is a Berlin-based pianist and composer. Over the past 25 years she has developed a vocabulary that utilizes both the interior and exterior of the piano, using amplifiers, preparations and objects that become extensions of the instrument itself. Mayas has developed a series of techniques that draw on the history of prepared and internal piano vocabulary, but are highly individualized and expand the language for internal piano music making.
Filamental is made up of a who’s who of the avant-garde and moves effortlessly between compositions by ensemble leader Magda Mayas and improvisations. The ensemble premiered at the music unlimited 2019 festival in Wels, Austria, which Magda Mayas co-curated. The name refers to filament, a filigree fiber or thread, a texture that is playfully explored, a psychologically embodied state and approach – Filamental.their new album Ritual Mechanics will be released in May 2024.at the concert at the Willisau Jazz Festival the band will play new works by Magda Mayas.
