Sylvie Courvoisier presents her latest ensemble, the atmospheric and versatile Chimaera. The group will be touring Europe from July to September 2024, performing music from Courvoisier’s double album Chimaera, released in November 2023 via Swiss label Intakt. The ensemble consists of Christian Fennesz on electric guitar/effects, Nate Wooley on trumpet, Drew Gress on double bass and drummers Nasheet Waits and Kenny Wollesen, who also plays the vibraphone. Courvoisier, who was born in Switzerland and lives in Brooklyn, has been described by the New York Times as “a pianist who is bold and commanding in equal measure”. She has previously worked with Wooley and Waits in New York, while Gress and Wollesen are longtime members of her highly acclaimed trio. Austrian artist Christian Fennesz, known for his ambient textures, is a special guest on Chimaera. The album presents an expansive, shimmering soundscape that towers above Courvoisier’s previous works.
